Project Goal - A Note
Making CT aims to work collaboratively with partnering elementary teachers to develop computational thinking infused maker lessons. These lessons will address content standards and identify areas where CT organically fits into the content area. By providing hands-on learning activities, abstract ideas will become more concrete and students will practice important 21st century skills. Through the success of these trainings and implementation of the lessons, other teachers have the opportunity to join the project and more students will be introduced to Making CT.
In an ideal world, Summer 2020 would have included face to face, hands-on professional development and each teacher would have created their own CT infused maker lesson. However, the continuing impact of COVID means that the schedule and project expectations, were adjusted. During the 2020-2021 school year partnering teachers and project team members met virtually monthly as a whole group and in small groups for professional development, lesson planning, and lesson debriefing. The summer of 2021 will be spent refining lessons, designing new lessons, and long-range planning of opportunities for CT infusion throughout the year.
